2023 Wyjup Collection Pinot Noir

Appearance: Ruby red.

Aroma: Nose of cherry liqueur, red plum, rose petal and baking spices. A hint of forest floor and savoury oak.

Palate: The palate is supple and textural, with silky tannins, warming spice and a core of ripe red fruits. Structurally masculine with depth, spice and a fine tannin frame.

Primarily Dijon clone 777. Fruit was harvested and 20% whole bunch fruit was layered at the base of fermenters to initiate partial carbonic maceration. A 5-7 day cold soak preceded fermentation, hand-plunged twice daily to extract softer tannins. The wine was pressed off at dryness, with no extended maceration. Matured in French oak (20% new) from Tremeaux and Dargaud & Jaegle for 10 months.

8/10 A cool, wet start delayed budburst and flowering, but healthy canopies and ideal summer conditions (clear skies, warm days, cool nights) brought phenology back into line by March. The result was excellent varietal intensity, especially in whites. Late April rains compressed harvest but did not compromise quality.
