2022 Wyjup Collection Release

The annual release of the Wyjup Collection happens every September and is always a cause for great excitement amongst the team.

This year we are releasing five new wines from the collection, which are;

2019 Wyjup Collection Blanc de Blancs

Very pale straw with a luminous green hue. This is a zesty, pristine example of cool-climate sparkling. The light brioche notes complex, crisp red apple and pear aromas from extended lees contact in the bottle. The tightly wound palate is focused and intense. Comprehensive yeast lees contact imparts a creaminess and texture to the fine-boned natural acidity and crisp fruit flavour.

2021 Wyjup Collection Riesling

Very pale straw colouring and filled with fresh Riesling fruit aromatics of fresh, zesty lime and orange blossom. The palate structure has finesse and purity but has an underlying intensity and focus. Fresh citrus flavours glide over the mid-palate, followed by the wine’s fine-boned structure and power. The length and flavour persistence features strongly.

2020 Wyjup Collection Chardonnay

Medium straw colour with lifted ripe melon and nectarine fruit aromas with some subtle marzipan nuttiness and vanilla top notes. The palate is tightly wound and focused. The natural acidity and minimal MLF provide a firm backbone for the fruit’s expression. The flavour and intensity are integrated seamlessly with the fine-boned French oak.

2020 Wyjup Collection Pinot Noir

Bright Maroon with ethereal, vinous aromatics reminiscent of black cherry and ripe tomatoes with some cashew nuttiness. The silkiest tannins carry a full, rounded mid-palate with dense Pinot character.

2021 Wyjup Collection Malbec

Deep Maroon with purple, almost magenta hues. They are packed full of spicy blue fruits and dark plum aromas, with flashes of pomegranate, dark chocolate and gravelly tones. The palate is a celebration of the variety, super vibrant with a sweet fruit mid-palate and quite masculine, big smooth tannins. The richness and earthiness of the Malbec shines through on the finish.

These wines are the pinnacle of the Plantagenet wine portfolio and reflect the ability to access old vines and fantastic quality fruit that only comes with age. The Wyjup Collection wines are made from estate fruit from our Wyjup Vineyard (1971 planting) and the Bouverie Vineyard (1968), owned by the family of Plantagenet founder Tony Smith.

The attention to detail in the vineyard, the selection of the absolute best parcels of fruit, investment in French oak, and excellence in winemaking practices overseen by Chief Winemaker, Mike Garland, ensure that wines in the Wyjup Collection are of consistent and outstanding quality.

We are particularly excited to release our first straight Malbec from a 50-year-old planting at our Wyjup Vineyard. This wine exhibits spicy blue fruits and dark plums with vibrant mid-palate and masculine tannins. Only 70 Dozen of this wine have been made this year.

Volumes in the Wyjup Collection are tiny, fast becoming collectable wines to be enjoyed as the year progresses.
