Emporium

Our vineyards produce an outstanding quality fruit that can only be achieved after the vineyard has aged and become balanced with its surroundings, responding to the terroir that is distinctively Mount Barker, Great Southern.

The winemaking process pays homage to the quality of fruit with minimal intervention and judicial barrel ageing to express balanced and sophisticated wines of provenance.

ICON

Icon

Our Icons reflect the significant contribution of two pioneers that have shaped the lineage of Plantagenet. Tony Smith a leader of the WA Wine Industry and founder of Plantagenet. Lionel Samson who began the oldest family business in WA, merchants since 1829.

These wines reflect the ultimate potential of our two oldest vineyards and are single vineyard, single block wines only made in exceptional vintages such as 2018. Crafted to evolve over a long cellaring period and celebrated in the years to come.

Plantagenet

The Plantagenet’s were the English royal house which reigned from 1154 to 1485 over vast areas of France and England.

Our link to this noble name is strong, with our vineyards situated in the Plantagenet Shire of Mount Barker and our founder, Tony Smith, able to trace his lineage back to the Plantagenets.

The Plantagenet range of wines has been named after the key families within the Plantagenet house, or the regions under which Plantagenets ruled — Aquitaine, Lancaster, Normand, York and Angevin.

Three Lions

The Plantagenets were the first truly armigerous royal dynasty of England; meaning they were entitled to strike and bear various coats of arms.

The three lions passant guardant — termed colloquially "the arms of England" — was first adopted by King Richard the Lionheart. The lions signified royalty, history, power and a code of conduct that was instantly recognised wherever they were displayed.

So, too, does our Three Lions range of wines. They are wines with power and provenance, with the coat of arms recognised by many as a symbol of quality and prestige.

Museum

Each year we reserve a portion of our new vintages to allow the wine to mature in the best condition possible for select future releases.

The fruit sourced from our estate vineyards is the common thread, but the nuances are formed from vintage variation and subtle winemaker variations.

We cherish the story and lineage of our museum wines and occasionally offer limited stock for cellar release purchase.
